In April, The Royal College of Nursing launched its Rest, Rehydrate and Refuel campaign following a study it conducted that found, on any given day, 36 per cent of clinical staff at an NHS hospital were dehydrated before they had started their shift. In response to, consumer healthcare company Clinova began its drive to donate 100,000 tablets to NHS staff across the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic.
O.R.S. has teamed up with its sporting partner, Premier League football club Tottenham Hotspur, to donate to two North London hospitals, Whittington Hospital and North Middlesex Hospital.
They have also provided products to NHS staff working at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which has been handed over to the NHS for logistics operations during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dr Tom Bracewell, Chief Medical Officer, said: “Hydration is one of the most important aspects of human health, especially when the body is faced with challenges such as extreme heat or illness. With the Covid-19 pandemic continuing, it is essential for everyone to stay well hydrated. ”
Fran Jones, Head of Partnerships for Tottenham Hotspur, added: “We are proud to have handed over parts of our stadium to the NHS as we fight Covid-19 together and are delighted that many of our partners are also playing their part. ”
O.R.S is currently undergoing trials with patients suffering from acute viral upper respiratory infection symptoms (AVRTI), associated with Covid-19, such as coughing, fever, scratchy or sore throat and nasal congestion.
What does O.R.S do?
Formulated to World Health Organisation (WHO) standards, Clinova’s O.R.S Hydration Tablets add an electrolyte mix to water that helps the human body quickly absorb fluids and restores an optimal level of hydration.
The glucose-salt combination helps to replenish water and body salts that are depleted through sweating (exercise or illness) and through drinking too little. It is clinically proven to help the body maintain the right fluid balance.
O.R.S. tablets are now widely available both in shops and online. Stockists include Holland and Barrett, Boots, WH Smiths, Amazon, Wiggle, Morrisons and local pharmacies across the UK.
